SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EQUITY WORK

With issues of inequality and injustice remaining at the forefront of education and understanding in Hutchins, what I present here is a gathering of responses, essays, and works alike, capturing the perspective that I have had on the curricula I have gained. A small, yet meaningful, collection of some of the greatest issues that face society, as well as an acknowledgment to their presence in our society.

Responding to a work by Martin Luther King Jr., this piece addresses the mistreatment of the African American people in the past, and how the topic of discussion is still abundantly present in the present.

Discussing the ways in which the prison system, and larger judicial system of America works, this work discusses the hierarchal set up within the judicial system and the oppression that is built within it.

Talking about Stéphen Hessel's work, Indignez-Vouz, this paper brings attention to the imbalances of wealth, education, and issues alike that will have to fall under the changes of our next generations... who will hopefully not make the same mistakes as us.

Mentioning various works from Karl Marx, Barbara Kopple, and Stéphen Hessel, this work advocates the congregation of the working class as a means to bettering the opportunities and livelihoods that they have thus far left in poverty, and abuse.

Talking about Richard O'Moore's documentary, Take This Hammer, this work showcases James Baldwin's time, and talks, within San Francisco — bringing about a dire realization to the immense gentrification, and degradation that has befallen many minorities within the area.

Discussing Raoul Peck's film, I Am Not Your Negro, and talking about the likes of activists such as Medgar Evers, MLK Jr. and Malcolm X, the film and this work is centered around the binary contrasts of society experienced by African Americans relative to their white counterparts.
